Neurodiversity
What is Neurodiversity?
Most people are neurotypical, meaning that the brain functions and processes information in the way society expects. However, it is estimated that around 1 in 7 people (more than 15% of people in the UK) are neurodivergent, meaning that the brain functions, learns and processes information differently.
The prevalence of neurodiversity in the UK adult population is around 15%, comprising figures varying from 10% with dyslexia, 5% with ADHD and 1–2% with autism. Yet only 30–40% of neurodivergent adults are currently employed – eight times the unemployment rate for neurotypical people.
